Who inspires you?
Who inspires you?
“Anyone who is passionate about what they do. I envy the person who doesn’t give a fuck about fame or fortune, and is just living life on their terms, deeply in tune with their own happiness and satisfaction in life.”
“Gordon Parks — because he made the body a site of dignity and power before the world was ready. He showed that a Black man behind the lens could redefine how Black life is seen. That’s the lineage I’m working in.”
What do you want people to feel when viewing your work?
What do you want people to feel when viewing your work?
“I mostly just want them to experience something. That can be good, bad, repulsed, anything. I’m simply creating for myself and maybe the person who was like me to relive my past experiences.”
“Seen. Specifically, the kind of seen that’s uncomfortable at first — where you can’t look away because the image is asking something of you. I want people to sit with their own gaze.”
Why do you create?
Why do you create?
“To create something is to be human. To be human is to be flawed. It’s poetic isn’t it? Nothing is perfect nor should it be. Thats the exercise. Let go and release something you create into the world. Thats the muscle I’m trying to rediscover within myself.”
“I create because the alternative is disappearing. The self-portrait is survival documentation. I keep going because every image I make is proof I was here — fully, unashamed, on my own terms.”
